  • Scope of the transport sector to switch to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles

    Resource

This study, jointly undertaken by Arup and Cenex on behalf of the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and the Department for Transport (DfT), has investigated the scope for the transport sector to switch to vehicles powered through electricity from the grid in the period until 2030.

  • PLUGGED-IN FLEETS A guide to deploying electric vehicles in fleets

    Resource

This report is a guide to deploying electric vehicles (EVs) in fleets. It identifies a number of practical tools that fleet decision makers need to assess the benefits EVs can deliver. By doing so it can help businesses achieve competitive advantage whilst moving fleets towards a sustainable future.

  • Electric drive vehicle characteristics study

    Resource

This paper presents analysis of an electric vehicle deployment focusing on the smart ed, including laboratory and in use road and user perception analysis. The study found consistent range performance across laboratory drive cycles, but differing real world performance, where range and duty alter significantly.

  • Efficiency of electric vehicle rapid charging systems

    Resource

This paper describes the results of an efficiency study on the performance of a rapid charge unit which has recently been installed at the MetroCentre retail complex in Gateshead. This is the first publically available device of its type in the UK. The study focuses on the efficiency and power draw of the charging process at different starting States of Charge (SoC) and compares the performance of the rapid charger with that of conventional slow charging using a Mitsubishi i_MiEV.

  • Regional AD facility feasibility study

    Resource

Feasibility Study for a Large Scale Regional Anaerobic Digestion Facility. This report details a study for the implementation of a large scale anaerobic digestion (AD) facility in the East Midlands. The study focuses on the anaerobic digestion of waste biodegradable materials in the form of commercial and industrial food waste to produce biomethane for use in transport logistic applications.

  • Leeds biomethane RCV trial report

    Resource

Trial of biomethane-powered refuse collection vehicles in Leeds. This report details the operation and results of a trial of two biomethane powered refuse collection vehicles in Leeds between May 2009 and July 2010. The vehicles trialled were a Mercedes-Benz Econic LLG vehicle with a spark ignition engine running on biomethane alone, and a Dennis-Eagle Elite modified by Hardstaff to run on a mixture of diesel and biomethane, commonly known as dual-fuel. This report provides a well-to-wheel analysis of the greenhouse gas savings achieved by the vehicles as well as an analysis of the drivers and barriers to their extended uptake.

  • Greenwich waste and fleet analysis

    Resource

The Cenex Biomethane Calculator has been designed to give an indicative production quantity of biomethane and an indicative revenue value in both combined heat and power (CHP) and vehicle applications. This allows for a quantitative decision to be made on whether a more detailed engineering and financial analysis for a particular AD programme should be progressed.
