HEVC 2011 Venue and Directions

Warwick University International Manufacturing Centre

The Venue

University of Warwick is located in the heart of England, adjacent to the city of Coventry - 3 miles (5 kilometres) from the city centre.

The event will take place in the International Digital Laboratory (building 26) and the International Manufacturing Centre (building 28)

 
 
 

By Car

Parking information

There are 2 car parks situated either side of the IDL & IMC, car park 15 and car park 8.  Both car parks are the same walking distance to the IDL & IMC and it is a very short walk about 3 mins away.

A car park charge will apply at a cost of £1.50 up to 4hrs and £3 over 4hrs, visitors are advised to bring the correct change to use in the pay machines.

From the North

From the M69/M6 interchange (M6 Jct 2) take A46 towards Warwick and Coventry S & E.

After approximately 3.5 miles you will reach Tollbar End roundabout (junction with A45). At the roundabout, follow signs for A45 Birmingham.

After approximately 3 miles you will cross the A429 (Kenilworth Road), half a mile after this junction take the left-hand turn signposted 'University of Warwick'. Follow signs for University of Warwick (and Warwick Arts Centre) across two roundabouts. You are now approaching the University of Warwick from Kirby Corner Road.

From the South East

From M45 Jct 1 take A45 towards Coventry.

After approximately 7 miles you will reach Tollbar End roundabout (junction with A46) follow signs for A45 Birmingham.

Now follow directions as for arriving from the North.

From the South

From M40 Jct 15 take A46 towards Coventry.

After approximately 8 miles leave A46 at junction signposted 'University of Warwick and Stoneleigh'.

After a further 1.5 miles you will cross the A429 (Kenilworth Road). You are now approaching the University of Warwick from Gibbet Hill Road.

From the West

From M42 Jct 6 take A45 towards Coventry.

After approximately 9 miles you will pass a large Sainsbury store on your left. At the next roundabout (Fire Station on right) take the right-hand exit, signposted 'University and Canley'.

Follow signs for University of Warwick (and Warwick Arts Centre) across two roundabouts. You are now approaching the University of Warwick from Kirby Corner Road.

By Train

There are various rail stations that are easily accessed from the campus and they offer excellent links to Birmingham, London and many other major UK cities.

Coventry Rail Station

The nearest rail station for the University is Coventry - approximately four miles from the campus. Coventry Station is easily reached from London (Euston), Birmingham and Leicester, all of which run regular and frequent services direct to Coventry. From Coventry Station, there are frequent local bus services to the University.

Visitors should follow the signs from the station to Warwick Road (a 2 minute walk) and from there catch the Travel Coventry services 12/12A or U1 which travel onto the main campus. The Stagecoach service U1 travels along Warwick Road and onto the Central Campus. More information on bus travel to the University can be found here.

Taxis are also available from outside of the station (about £10, 15 mins).

Birmingham New Street Rail Station

During weekdays trains from Birmingham New Street depart for Coventry on average every 10 minutes.  The journey takes between 20-30 minutes depending on which service is used.

London Midland offer a regular rail service that stops at local rail stations including Canley Rail Station which is a 25 minute walk, or a shorter bike ride or taxi journey than from the main Coventry Rail Station to campus.

Birmingham International Rail Station

The station that serves Birmingham Airport is Birmingham International. During weekdays trains depart from Birmingham International to Coventry on average every 10 minutes. The journey takes between 10-15 minutes depending on which service is used.

London Midland offer a regular rail service that stops at local rail stations including Canley Rail Station which is a 25 minute walk, or a shorter bike ride or taxi journey than from the main Coventry Rail Station to campus.

Canley Rail Station

Canley has a small local rail station is approxiamately 1.3 miles, is a 25 minute walk, a short bike ride or taxi journey to main campus. London Midland offer a regular rail service that passes through Canley Station going to London, Milton Keynes, Birmingham New Street, Birmingham International, Coventry, Rugby and Northampton.

Leamington Spa Rail Station

Leamington Spa rail station is approximately 9.5 miles from the university campus. The station offers rail services to Warwick, Solihull, Coventry, Oxford and Reading as well as a service to London Marylebone.

Stagecoach provides a dedicated frequent bus service from Leamington Spa to the university campus, the Unibus (U1). There is a second version of this route that passes through Kenilworth and is named the U2. For information on this service, please visit the Stagecoach website. Warwick Rail Station

Warwick Station is in Warwick Town - approximately 8.4 miles from the University campus. The University of Warwick is not in Warwick Town. If you are travelling by rail, you are strongly advised to travel to Coventry Station (not Warwick Station) which is closer to the University and has better public transport links.

By Bus

Local buses offer a frequent and convenient way of travelling to and from campus. There are regular bus services to the University campus from Coventry City Centre and Coventry Rail Station with the journey taking approximately 30 minutes.

Travel Coventry service number 12 (which display the destination, University of Warwick or Leamington Spa) run from the city centre bus station (Pool Meadow) via Coventry Rail Station to the University Central Campus passing the Westwood campus en route.

The Travel Coventry route 801 travels from the University to Cheylesmore, Binley and Walsgrave Hospital via Finham, Whitley and Willenhall.

Stagecoach also provides a service that passes the University. The Stagecoach service X17 runs from the city centre, passing the junction of Gibbet Hill Road and Kenilworth Road. The entrance to the Gibbet Hill campus is about 5 minute's walk from this bus stop. The Central Campus can also be reached from this site by following the campus footpath, which takes about 10 mins. After reaching campus this service goes on to Kenilworth, Leamington Spa, Warwick Hospital and Warwick Town Centre.

If you are travelling from Leamington Spa, Stagecoach provides a dedicated frequent bus service, the Unibus (U1) that passes through campus. There is a second version of this route that passes through Kenilworth and is named the U2. For information on this service, please visit the Stagecoach website. This service also covers Coventry City Centre and Coventry Rail Station on Sundays and Public Bank Holidays.

The Travel Coventry service number 12 also connects Leamington Spa and Kenilworth with the university campus and Coventry.

Bus Travel tips

  • Travel Coventry buses do not usually give change so make sure you have the correct money available before making your journey. You can find information about fares on the Travel Coventry website but it is best to check with the driver when you board the bus.
  • Stagecoach buses do give change on the majority of their services.
  • From Coventry Rail Station visitors should follow the signs to Warwick Road (a 2 minute walk) and from there catch the Travel Coventry services 12 or U1 (see above) which travel onto the main campus.
  • If you are unsure about which service you require and you would like assistance - you can call Traveline on 0870 608 2 608 where staff will be able to assist with planning your journey.

Taxi

If you are getting to the event via a taxi please call Central Taxis on 02476 333 333. You will need to ask them to take you to the International Manufacture centre on Warwick university.

If you are leaving the event via a taxi, it is recommended that you pre book a taxi a few hours before you wish to leave. There is also a taxi rank on campus which is about a 5min walk from the International Manufacture centre.
