Cenex were commissioned by Cadwyn Clwyd, a Rural Development Agency, and Wrexham County Borough Council (WCBC), to determine the feasibility of installing the points across the county in 2017.

This project was funded through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government. Working with Cadwyn Clwyd and WCBC, Cenex explored options for chargepoint locations and network specifications, with the hope of accelerating the uptake of plug-in electric vehicles in and around Wrexham. In the project Cenex:

  1. Identified the most suitable locations for the installation of charging points across publicly accessible sites in the County, and conducted assessments with the distribution network operator to understand how much power was available at each site for the infrastructure;

  1. Identified the most suitable type of charging point per location, and created costed models for the installation, maintenance and servicing of each point for the contract period;

  1. Established the suitability of using renewable technology for powering the charge points;

  1. Considered procurement options and authored procurement guidance and specifications to enable chargepoint hardware to be purchased.

Cenex later supported the evaluation of chargepoint tenders by providing technical due diligence and cost reviews before the contract award.
