North East Rapid Charger Network for Taxis

Project

Project Brief

Transport North East has appointed SWARCO to install, operate and maintain a network of ten new 50 kW rapid chargers for taxi and private hire vehicles operating in the seven local authorities covered by the North East and North of Tyne Combined Authorities.

SWARCO has subcontracted Cenex to engage with the local taxi trade, highlight potential early adopters and enable the trade to make better informed decisions about the suitability of electric vehicles. This will be delivered through engagement workshops supported by industry representatives, personalised advice based on real-world journey patterns and regular project updates.

Objectives

The overall aim of the project is to provide the trade with the information, tools and confidence required to transition to zero or ultra-low emission vehicles.Accelerating the transition to ultra-low emission taxi and private hire vehicles will not only improve local air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions but can also provide significant running cost savings, reduce total cost of ownership and provide resilience against future regulation changes.
